UN. REAL.
After a double-overtime win in the Sweet 16 matchup with Xavier, in which my heart rate probably hit 140 just sitting there, watching clutch 3 after huge freethrow go in for both teams, the Fightin' Willies are moving on to the Regional Final against Butler. I'm tired, but too jazzed to go to bed.
GO STATE!

Tuesday Night Special
Ran the "Dandelion" course at Dogma last night. 7x3 intervals ramping from 95%LT to 105%LT.
Fun.
Fun.

Rant Of The Day
I feel sorry for you out there that feel the need to cause an uproar on Facebook or other similar venues over the health care reform bullshit. I really do. It's sad.
Whether you're for socialism or for corporate greed, you're all effing disillusioned that you can do anything about it. This isn't a county commissioner election or a bond issue, where your vote actually counts. Nope - the way this country works, the people you ALREADY PUT INTO OFFICE are the ones that are making the decision FOR YOU.
Don't voice your displeasure to ME - voice it to THEM. THEY can actually do something about it. Cast your vote in November to replace or retain those people. Stop stewing over something you really have no control over, and move on with your life.
All you're doing is shortening your own lifespan with stress, which in that case - by all means: reform healthcare.
You need it.
Pathetic.
Regardless of which side of the bill you sit on, you cannot deny this fact. It is a bad idea.
Why can I say that?
Because 13 Attorneys General around the country filed a FUCKING LAWSUIT to stop it.
Rhetorical Question of the Day: If this bill was a good idea, do you think that would have been the response?

Happy With That
Lactate threshold test at Dogma tonite.
3.36 W/kg, or 283 W average at 186lbs body weight.
Overall, I'm pleased with that effort.

Words To Live By
Back from a hiatus. Don't know why i haven't updated the blog in a while...just haven't. Not apologetic about it, but not stonefaced about it, either. I've had lots to talk about, but without having the time to get around to posting, the random thoughts leave my mind as quickly as they entered, nevermore to be heard from again.
Throughout all my workouts and training sessions, I get a lot of music time. Some of my most adrenalin-pumping tunes gear me up, carry me through, and cool me down on almost a daily basis. Every once in a while, I catch a certain phrase that sticks in my mind, and have trouble shaking it.
"Never trust a junkie..."
- lyrics from 'Just One Fix', by Ministry
"...We found your weakness;
and its right outside your door, now testify!"
- lyrics from 'Testify', by Rage Against The Machine
The first, well no shit.
The second carries some weight with my training, my preparation as I move into a higher category for mountain bike racing this summer. Understanding this is not in context with the lyrics of the song, but the the particular Rage lyric above points me to understanding what I need to get better at, its staring me right in the face - and I need to admit it and get better.
Its a stretch, but whatever.
Maybe I just like how kick-ass that song is.
Anyway, the weather has been frickin STELLAR around here lately. Literally upper 50s today in Eagle. W00T! Couple that with Daylight Savings Time (yay!), and I can seriously be riding outdoors on the roadie in the evening after work. That, ladies and gentlemen, don't suck.
I'm in my Build training blocks right now, prepping for the Sea Otter Classic in Monterrey, California, on April 16. 38 Miles is a helluva long mountain bike race this early in the season. However, during the Build portion, I'm doing more lactate threshold (LT) improvement and VO2(max) expansion workouts. Downright suffering. For instance, my workout yesterday evening went something like this:
On a lighter note, Fruita (Loma trails) should be relatively good to go in a week and a half or so. Which is good - heading down there next Sunday to get some MTB work in (efforts and bike handling). Stoked.
Well, since it looks like the warm weather is coming out to play now, GO RIDE!

- Warm up at comfortable cadence (90rpm)/easy effort for 30 mins, keeping heart rate below 125bpm
- During warm up, mix in (3) efforts at 1 minute long, cadence at or above 120rpm
- Ramp up effort at 90rpm to move heart rate into 170-175bpm, hold that effort for 3 minutes
- Relax effort at 90rpm to move heart rate back into 150bpm range, hold that effort for 4 minutes
- Repeat 3 times (1 set)
- Repeat 3 sets, with 5 min between at 90rpm/easy effort
- Cool down for 20 mins with 90rpm/easy effort

Good and Bad
Some days you have ups, some days you have downs.
K-State game didn't go as well as the Fighting Willies had hoped for last night. Kept it close for the first 30 minutes, but KU ended up making the plays down the stretch, and pulled away with a 82-65 game at Allen Fieldhouse.
Didn't see anything that would change my mind in their rankings - both teams are Top 5 material.
So we change our focus to events coming ahead:
Can March 9 get any better at this point?
Final Fantasy XIII be released for the Playstation3. I have been waiting for this title for, well, since i bought my PS3. Let me rephrase that - I bought my PS3 specifically for this game. No shit. This game is destined to become the Game of the Year, Game of the Decade, Game of the Millenium...hell, best damn game of all time. And it's just 5 short days away.
Then I double-check some music I heard was coming out...lo and behold, the new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, comes out Tuesday as well!
Are you kidding me? And then God of War III comes out for PS3 next Tuesday? That's almost cruel!

My Thoughts Exactly...
#5 K-State vs. #2 KU - Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence, KS
7:00CT Tipoff
GO STATE!
For the record, KSU and KU have played in Allen Fieldhouse twice previously where both teams were ranked in the Top 5 nationally.
K-State won both.

Not Bad...Not Bad At All.
When you're plowing through the winter months (no pun intended), you start looking for something...anything that helps you realize that winter is almost over. Well, the past couple days have shown that cycling season will be upon us in earnest very soon.
My car's thermometer said 50 degrees on Monday afternoon on Gypsum. I shit you not. Nothing says it's time for the bike like not needing a down parka anymore.
That, and Versus is now officially showing replays of the Classics on Sunday afternoons. Git ya sum.
Starting in on Week 1 of my first Build period on the training program. Dogma tonight, went better than I could have expected. Put down 6x5x3 intervals at 95rpm with a power output of 315 watts at times.
As I lay here in bed with lil ol' Riley sawing off some z's, it dawned on me...
Not a bad day.
